Backpack Bundle includes full patterns for RETREAT BACKPACK, RETREAT POCKET ADD-ONS and LILLIPUT.
The large-sized RETREAT BACKPACK is a very functional backpack that uses an internal 10" x 2-1/4" (22 cm x 5.7 cm) wire frame.
Finished Size: 12”L x 13.5”H x 6”W (30.5 cm L x 34.3 cm H x 15.2 cm W)
RETREAT BACKPACK Pocket Add-on includes three alternative pockets for Retreat Backpack:
Finished Size: 9”W x 10”H x 4”D (23 cm L x 25.4 cm H x 10 cm W)
Both backpacks feature a top that opens wide and, because of the internal frame, stays that way so that you can get to all your stuff. Both use webbing for the straps and handles and the ends of these are covered with raw edge vinyl, leather or cork. This makes the construction much less bulky to sew compared to using multiple layers of fabric. However, if your machine can handle the bulk of fabric straps, the backpack will certainly accommodate them too. LILLIPUT includes tips for dressing up the webbing and this can be applied to either backpack. LILLIPUT also includes directions for a zippered strap that allows you to wear the bag over one shoulder comfortably.
These patterns are written with enough detail for the beginning bag maker. They will appeal to the experienced bag maker as they are easily taken up a notch with fabric choices; consider, linen, denim, or waxed canvas. If choosing thicker fabrics, consider reducing the interfacing and/or fusible fleece for a softer construction.
The patterns include both drafted pattern pieces and measured pieces. All construction is suitable for a domestic sewing machine.

- A single-pleated, expandable front pocket with magnetic closure flap
- aAdouble pleated expandable front pocket with two closure options on the flap and
- A side pocket suitable for go mug or water bottle.

- Directions include how to alter the Retreat Backpack construction to add any of these pockets. These are also suitable for adding to other appropriate-sized bags.
