This research examines how solid waste is managed within selected higher education institutions in Maiduguri, Borno State. It aims to assess waste generation patterns, storage, collection, disposal methods, and the overall effectiveness of institutional waste management systems. distinct factors will also determine the best waste management practice to adopt. Solid waste generation is expected to rise to 2.2 billion tons by 2025. As the volume and difficulty of solid waste increase, the environmental risk caused by waste materials, including human health risks and environmental degradation, also increases. The study utilizes simple descriptive statistics including tables, frequencies and percentages for data analyses. The results indicated that most waste generated is from domestic activities with 69%. Data were analyzed and interpreted by using descriptive and inferential statistics. This research consists of a title page, approval page, certification, abstract, table of contents, list of abbreviations, Chapters One to Five (from introduction to conclusion), and references.
