TME Performance Handball Years 10–11 | Ages 14–16 | KS4
TME Performance Handball is a seven-lesson Scheme of Learning for Years 10–11 Core PE. It develops secure individual skills, purposeful attacking movement, organised defending and the ability to make effective tactical decisions during competitive play.
The lessons build from passing, receiving, footwork and maintaining possession into dribbling, transition and attacking movement. Pupils refine standing and jump-shot techniques, explore goalkeeper responsibilities and learn how width, depth, support and player roles create scoring opportunities. Defensive work develops legal marking, blocking, communication and team organisation. The final lessons apply these skills through conditioned games, tactical match play, officiating, leadership and performance assessment.
The complete scheme provides two curriculum and assessment pages, seven detailed one-page lesson plans and seven corresponding TME lesson infographics. The opening pages establish curriculum context, progression, Know and Show expectations, vocabulary, inclusion, safety and Head–Heart–Hands assessment.
Every lesson includes:
- Head, Heart and Hands objectives
- Timed Warm-up, Explore, Develop, Apply and Plenary activities
- Court dimensions, group organisation, rotations and equipment guidance
- Accurate technical cues for passing, catching, movement and shooting
- Progressive practices that connect individual skill to team tactics
- STEP differentiation for support and increased challenge
- AfL linked to possession, shot quality, defensive actions and teamwork
- SEND and EAL adaptations and purposeful goalkeeper, coach and official roles
- Clear guidance on legal defending, safe shooting and controlled contact
- Extensive Plan–Monitor–Reflect prompts and tactical oracy structures
The scheme provides teachers with a clear route from core handball techniques to confident, organised and independently managed competitive performance.
