The Riddle

I wrote this one about a time I befriended an eccentric older guy who had some mental health struggles. He had this way of just dropping these totally nonsensical, random phrases right into the middle of our conversations. Instead of finding it confusing, I was completely fascinated by him—there was something so inspiring about the way his mind worked.

I decided to take those quirks and turn them into a song. The lyrics are this weird, wonderful mix of his actual random phrases woven together with my own reflections on how unpredictable and funny life can be. It’s a reminder to myself that life doesn’t always have to make sense, and sometimes you just have to embrace the complexity and the humor in the middle of the muddle.
