Stone lanterns of Sento Imperial Palace in Kyoto
The Stone Lanterns of Sentō Gosho Garden
Built in 1630 as Emperor Go-Mizunoo's retirement residence, the Sentō Imperial Palace's gardens reflect the refined taste of the emperor and the expertise of the famed garden designer and tea master, Kobori Enshu. While the palace buildings were lost in fires, the gardens, laid out around a large pond with islands, bridges, and tea houses, still stand as a testament to Edo-era design.
