[SPH] Gewehr 98
The Gewehr 98 is a German bolt-action rifle introduced in 1898 and used by the German Empire during World War I, and later by various forces during World War II. It is chambered in 7.92×57mm Mauser and features a five-round internal magazine loaded via stripper clips. The rifle has a 740mm barrel, an overall length of 1,245mm, and weighs approximately 4.1 kg.
The Gewehr 98 was the first military rifle to use the Mauser bolt-action system, renowned for its smooth operation, accuracy, and ruggedness. It also featured a large, sweeping bolt handle, a bayonet lug, and a highly effective rear sight adjustable up to 2,000 meters, although its practical combat range was around 600 meters.
The Gewehr 98 was the basis for later Mauser rifles, including the Karabiner 98k, which was a shortened version used by German forces during World War II. The Gewehr 98 itself remained in service in various countries for many years after the First World War, with some being used by Nationalist Spain and China into the 1950s.
