Give students four ways to explore vocabulary from Harper Lee’s To Kill a Mockingbird: matching activities, crossword puzzles, word searches, and Word Connection (Connecting Wall) challenges.

Designed for grades 9–12, this printable packet combines vocabulary review with opportunities to recognise patterns, explain relationships, and think critically.

What’s included:

  • 2 vocabulary matching worksheets
  • 2 crossword puzzles
  • 2 word searches
  • 2 Word Connection challenges
  • Answer keys for matching, crosswords, and word searches
  • Suggested solutions for both Word Connection challenges

More than vocabulary recall

In each Word Connection challenge, students sort 16 words into four connected groups, explain each connection, and identify a broader connection linking all four group themes. These activities encourage students to consider word meanings, categories, and relationships.

The packet features 32 vocabulary words overall. Matching, crosswords, and word searches practise 30 words; the Word Connection challenges introduce two additional words.

Use the activities for independent practice, partner work, small groups, vocabulary review, or supplementary work during your novel study.

Includes 16 PDF pages: eight student activity pages and eight answer-key or suggested-solution pages, with a light Maycomb map background.

This vocabulary companion was created by Hancock Learning Studio. These activities are not included in the larger Empathy unit.
