English isn't built in a day.
A word noticed. A sentence improved. A better question asked. An idea expressed a little more clearly. Small things, repeated often, become habits. And habits become skills.
A little about English by Cheryl
For more than a decade, I’ve been teaching English, marking scripts and getting to know the children behind the work.
Over the years, I’ve come to believe that good teaching begins with knowing the child — understanding how they learn, what they find difficult and when they need support or challenge.
It also means helping children understand the why behind what they are learning, so that English becomes more than a collection of rules, answers and techniques. They begin to notice, make connections and make choices for themselves.
My experience in MOE schools, including marking the PSLE, together with a Master’s in Educational Psychology, has given me a strong foundation in both the subject and how children learn.
But the children I’ve taught, and now my own children, have shaped my understanding of teaching most.
The aim is not simply to help children get the right answer. It is to help them understand, think and grow into confident users of English.
