I made resin eyes using a resin casting kit. This actually turned out to be quite tricky. The white pigment used to colour resin is titanium dioxide, which is the same thing that's in sunscreen to reflect UV light. This becomes a problem with UV curing resins, so it took a little trial and error to get a technique that would be opaque white but still cure properly.
- Using UV nail colour gel, paint the inside of the silicone mould, then cure for 2 minutes under UV light.
- Fill the rest of the mould with clear UV resin, allow it to settle and cure for the recommended time (5 minutes for me, just to be sure it's fully cured).
- Demould and paint the outer surface with clear UV nail topcoat, cure for 2 minutes.
- Add glue to the depression that forms the iris and allow it to go tacky.
- Gently press gold leaf into the depression with a paintbrush and leave it to dry.
- Add a small dot of black acrylic paint into the depression for the pupil.
- Fill the depression with clear UV resin and cure.
