Defining Who You Are Matters!

MaternalTreasures Virtual Childbirth Classes

Introduction

Humble beginnings

It was in the year 2008 when I sat in a service at my church taught by the late Dr Myles Munroe and I heard the voice of God birth the dream of Maternal Treasures into my spirit. I knew there was more to my life than just becoming a nurse. It all began before I was born! Ephesians 2:4 For he chose us in him before the creation of the world to be holy and blameless in his sight. In love.

1.My childhood told the story of my future

I have heard it said that if you really want to see who you are, check out what you did as a child and you would see visions of the real you. I have found this to be true for my life. As I grew up I remember as a little girl teaching a class in our bedroom. I always tried to get my 6 sisters to sit down and listen to me but for some reason they never really wanted to listen to me.

I guess playing outside was more important and I can understand why. Here it was, our firm father was a no nonsense father who would always leave his last instructions “ no one is to go outside and play.” Of course once daddy left we all ran outside to play wonderful outdoor games with the neighbor's kids like hopscotch, shooting marbles, climbing trees, playing base ball of which I don't’ see today. Everyone on computers instead.

So they had all these reasons not to listen to me because they knew that daddy would be back home and how soon; no one knew. All we knew is that if daddy met you outside after giving his instructions whoever he met outside would get a whipping.

2.Purpose being defined

Maternal Treasures- Defining Purpose-Virtual Childbirth classes

I remember imagining myself in my nursing uniform

before I was accepted into the nursing program.

Did you know the invisible is more powerful than the visible?

Looking at it now I see where God was defining my purpose for this baby of mine- Maternal Treasures. So I continued my hobby of teaching to an empty class. I mocked my teachers by pointing out my imaginary students intently, listening to me and answering the questions I asked them. I always felt satisfied , and fulfilled after a class with my imaginary students. I loved it! Your imagination is so POWERFUL!

Then at the age of twelve years old I had an intense urge to have a colored doll. I asked my mom to buy me a colored, walking doll and she did. I asked myself and even my sisters why I wanted a doll at age 12. When I got the doll as a Christmas gift I was so happy. I now wanted to practice how to care for this doll if it was hurt.

So I would pretend that the doll was sick and came to me for help. I remember bandaging it’s imaginary wounds and talking to it. I loved my doll. She even slept with me pretty often. This my friends was the dream I was carrying. God was defining who I am.

As I grew into a preteen I discovered that my mom had two medical books in the home. Moms out there encourage your kids to read and take time like my mom did to read to your kids and any books you think are important for your kids to read, put it in the home where they can see it. You never know who you are developing in that environment.

3.READ, READ, READ GOOD BOOKS AND PUT THEM WHERE THE KIDDIES CAN SEE THEM!

I was the only one in the home interested in reading these two medical volumes of books. So there were times when I preferred to just go away from everyone and just read about the body. Then one day as I was reading one of the books I saw where a woman was “DELIVERING A BABY.” I was fascinated and blown away by what I saw.

I was immediately interested in this and decided that I was going to be a nurse. So I worked hard in my secondary years to fulfill this dream by trying to attain my GCEs successfully. Unfortunately, I was not able to be admitted into the nursing program after graduating, because I did not have all of the qualifications. This was hard but ONLY a bump in the road.

I felt so disappointed and hurt because I tried so hard to please myself and my mom and dad who I watched toiling for me and my eight sisters and brothers. Back in those days it was rough for us as dad was a taxi driver and mom stayed at home most of the time caring for us. I decided to go back to evening

classes and I was able to successfully achieve my goals WITH HONORS!!!

4.Get a job to help you on the journey

Maternal Treasures and Mom- Defining your purpose

Everyone usually begins with a job they do not like.

So don't feel any type of weight. It is only temporary.

Just a start get you moving towards the goal.

I also got a job that helped me to earn money to take care of myself, (tithe) helped my mom out, and pay for my classes. So you might have a dream but you will have to get a job that you don’t really like at first, just keep in mind it is only temporary. Do the things that are hard but needed, like communication skills, and competency in doing simple and hard things. So if you are working at a fast food place do not be ashamed of it. You will not be there forever. It will help you to REFINE YOUR GIFT.

Those of you out there who are not getting the results I encourage you to persevere, persist, and let determination, trust in the living God overtake you. I could still hear my sisters saying “Lynn, why are you trying so hard, sleepless nights, just studying.”

They did not know that I was defining my purpose. When you really want something, be like Joseph and do it with all your might! God requires excellence in everything we do because He is excellent. Remember purpose overrides our failures. Your greatness is tied to your failures.

At some point when you persevere and become determined life has to succumb to your demand. And God is working everything out for your good. So, yeah to cut a long story short I got enrolled into the nursing program in October, 1984. I did not have to wonder if I was called for this ministry. I just knew I was.

Always talk to God!

Remember to always talk to God about everything you do Proverbs 3:5, 6 says Trust in the Lord with ALL your heart and lean not to your own understanding, in ALL your ways acknowledge Him and He shall direct your paths.

Nursing is not easy. I can say it has been everything I dreamed of. My greatest joy has been interacting with the beautiful people that came through those doors everyday. Whether they had a good attitude or not; God gave me the grace to effectively help them to have the best experience once they came into my environment.

People I understand are God’s precious treasures in earthen vessels and they ought to be treated with the highest respect. King James Bible Honour all men. Now I am now saying that people are justified for being rude. No, I am saying that in spite of some persons I met being rude, I did my best to remain calm and not take them on personally, because I know we all have circumstances where life happens and not everyone can deal with it the same way.

5.CHERISH THE HARD WORKING STAFF YOU ENCOUNTER

Maternal Treasures and Mom Childbirth virtual classes

I want to encourage our Bahamian and global population to cherish the hard working staff at the hospitals or clinics you attend public or private, because most of them are truly trying to give you the best care that is difficult sometimes when they themselves have personal issues they are going through and still have to come to work. Also bear in mind the staff shortages that is constant. And yes I know there is no justification for anyone to be rude.

We need our doctors and nurses bad, bad! So this partnership goes both ways. We all should always aim to be assertive and respectful of each other (patient and caregiver).

Nursing is really and truly a sacrifice. Medical and nursing teams I salute you today! Continue to do your best and let God do the rest. I know about standing on your feet for 8 hours with no breaks just to see your patients happy and getting the care they deserve. Excellence is an action word. Doing the best you can even when no one is looking.

Remember God sees everything and will reward you OPENLY. In 2007 I successfully completed my Midwifery course . Then in 2008 I told you in the beginning, I heard God ‘s voice speaking to me about Maternal Treasures . I began thinking about helping pregnant women all the time. Your dream never leaves you. It is always constant in your mind. That's God cuing you about it.

See the invisible and manifest

Maternal Treasures and Mom- Virtual Childbirth Classes

Here I am . Not just a nurse but also a Midwife

All things are possible with God!

You see it all in the invisible first. Just think about it , everything we see now was invisible first. Agree? It is the same way with that awesome dream God has put inside you. It’s time to manifest your dream. The world needs it now! I saw breastfeeding ladies , and pregnant mamas lined up to be assisted with their needs met. I even dreamed about delivering babies!

MY SISTERS DID NOT LISTEN BUT MY PATIENTS DID!

After I finished midwifery school, I suddenly had the urge to educate all the patients in the units about breastfeeding , pregnancy, and newborn care. This was exciting for me as I stood in the middle of the unit and did a 7 - 15 minute lesson. I just had to educate them about something and if I did not I felt like my day was not as productive because it was missing.

6.Knowledge is POWERFUL if it is true!

I love people to be informed. Knowledge is power if it is true!

Sometimes I would even come to work early just to get some education in. The times to educate the patients was never enough. There was so much to know that they did not know. Hospital life is very unpredictable. It can be peace and quiet one minute and the other it can be an emergency.

So you see my sisters did not listen but the clients on the units became my visible students I was talking to when I was younger having my class. The invisible finally became visible. My real students could not run outside and play. No because it was a serious time in their lives where they had to listen to me for their own benefit.

7.A good start is to write the vision down

Maternal Treasures and Mom-Childbirth virtual Classes

Habakkuk 2:2,3 says: Then the LORD answered me and said: “Write the vision And make it plain on tablets, That he may run who reads it. For the vision is yet for an appointed time; But at the end it will speak, and it will not lie. Though it tarries, wait for it; Because it will surely come, It will not tarry. This vision was written down since 2008.

Dreams take time so write it down to look at it every day.

No matter how long it seems my friend, be patient like the farmer and work until it manifests. All things are possible with God if you believe. What is God showing you my friend. Don’t die with that dream buried. Star and don’t wait for the perfect moment when you have everything.

8.Start with what you have

Remember the 5 loaves and 2 fishes in the Bible? Start with what you have and watch God multiply it. I encourage you to define your purpose and get to work. Move by what you see in the invisible and work until it comes to pass. I have defined my purpose through helping pregnant families rise to the belief that “ Birth is a wonderful experience and they have a part to play, through education and skill.”

I want to teach mamas how to understand their bodies during labor, appreciate the process and win by learning how to overcome the discomforts as your baby’s birthday advances.”Erase your fears, worries and anxieties, have all your questions answered. I take you step by step of the hospital routine during labor and how to have a voice so you could know how to speak up for # 1 and that's YOU!!!

To those of you who have relatives who are pregnant especially for the first time, if you love them please share and direct them to this link to register for a class. Link @ https://payhip.com/materanltreasuresandmom for registration. Pregnancy and labor is 10% physical and 90% mental!!!!. Gone are the days when you rely on mama and other people’s experience. No 2 pregnant women will ever experience the same experience during labor, even if they are twins.

Conclusion

Now I have the time to fully teach women how to win during their baby’s birthday and manifest their dream birth with knowledge and skills. Refine yourself until you manifest in the visible. Work hard at whatever you decide to do do with your life. You are a seed filled with God's breath and life.

Thanks for taking time out to read and I hope I inspired you to define yourself by letting the dream God has put into your heart to manifest. May all your plans succeed as you commit them to God. (Proverbs 16:3). If you think this post can help someone please comment and share. God bless you. Please feel free to comment and let me know what your dream is and how it is coming along.
