With the shift in season, and changes to routine, there is a lot happening, including the spreading of germs. Part of being prepared is having several items in your family's first aid toolkit. Certain essential oils should definitely be included. You don't need to race out and get everything, but if you can afford to stock some quality essential oils, I would do so now.
When I think of what kinds of essential oils I want to have on handĀ for fall and winter time, there are lots to pick from!
To start, there are some individual essential oils that are worth having around:
- rosemary (Rosmarinus officinalis)
- lavender (Lavandula angustifolia)
- eucalyptus (Eucalyptus Smithii)
- palmarosa (Cymbopogon martini)
- any citrus (Citrus sinensis, Citrus aurantiifolia, Citrus bergamia, etc.)
If you want a short list of what essential oils are indispensable to have on hand this fall and winter, reach for these oils.
The oils I chose for the list are for the following benefits:
- reasonable price range
- antiviral and/or antibacterial activity- and more!
- versatile applications
- readily available for most people in most places; accessible for purchase
There are many ways to use these, and it doesn't need to be a diffuser. If you like the idea of using essential oils but don't have, or want to use a diffuser, here are some excellent options:
- Add them to personal inhalers to use for an instant benefit
- Make your own roller bottle by using the essential oils of your choice into a suitable carrier oil for topical application
- Make a custom body or massage oil using your chosen essential oils into a suitable carrier oil, or herbal oil
- make a room spray for your personal space
Here are some honorable mention oils:
- saro (Cinnamosma fragrans)
- fragonia (Taxandria fragrans, Synonym: Agonis fragrans)
- cinnamon bark or leaf (Cinnamomum verum, Synonym: Cinnamomum zeylanicum)
- myrtle (Myrtus communis)
Some of these are a little harder to find, but if you have a supplier that you trust, reach out to them and see if they are available.
