Geological folds are the witnesses and remnants of the awe-inspiring forces that shaped the Earth’s crust millions of years ago. Sedimentary strata got permanently bent or broken. The many types of folds are fascinating to look at: arch-shaped, dip-shaped, chevrons and bends. And think of the cataclysms that most likely created them!

Stratimology is a long, wearable stole inspired by these wonderful geological folds and layers. Worked with three colors to resemble strata, the stole begins in the center with half-circle shaped modules connected to each other. Length is built seamlessly on each side, gently transitioning from curves to chevrons, mimicking more folds and layers. Put your geologist hat on, wow your friends and wrap yourself in soft squishy layers of wool!

Stratimology is a stole with an unexpected construction. It is worked in different knitting directions and starts from the center out with arched modules. This means that Stratimology grows in a fun and unexpected way. Three different colorways accentuate the direction changes. The stole is modular, meaning that you can add or remove central modules to make it larger or smaller. Next to that, the wings are easily customizable in length.

But fear not: the stole is very knitable! A word of caution though :-) Working the arched modules and the stripes is slightly addictive! ;-) Apart from that, from a knitting point of view, I got you covered with clear instructions and all kinds of support materials like tutorials, process photos, stitch counts, etc.
