The luminescent jellyfish (Pelagia noctiluca) is a jellyfish of the scyphozoan class, of Atlantic and Mediterranean distribution, which preferentially occupies pelagic habitats, but which can form swarms that reach the coastline and prevent swimming due to its extremely stinging from its cnidocytes.
