The Victoria Goura is a terrestrial pigeon that inhabits the rainforest of northern New Guinea and the islands of Yapen and Biak. It differs from other species of gouras by having a larger crest with white spots, as well as having a dark wing stripe. Gouras are the largest pigeons that exist, since they can weigh up to 2.5 kg.

They are sedentary animals that do not make seasonal migrations. With essentially terrestrial habits, they tend to spend the night high in the branches of trees.

The wild population of this species has suffered a sharp decline in recent years due to excessive hunting for human consumption and, mainly, the deforestation of its forest habitat.
