The drill is a very close relative of the mandrill, but much less well known due to its not so showy coloration and, above all, its extreme rarity, since there are very few specimens left in the wild. It is native to the rainforests of a small area of tropical West Africa, where it often moves on land. Like most primates, it is fundamentally vegetarian, but complements its diet with insects and small vertebrates.

It is a very terrestrial species, which usually moves on land. It forms groups made up of an adult male, several adult females with their young and some adolescent individuals. Small groups can group with others and form larger groups in times of scarce resources.

They have a diurnal activity rhythm. They are semi-terrestrial animals that mainly live at ground level, but that eat and sleep in trees.
