Dolls, Chapter One ( an AI animated film, 2026 )
Built at the intersection of autobiographical confession, visual poem, and psychological exploration, the film follows the journey of an artist attempting to reconstruct his own identity through memory, drawing, and images generated with artificial intelligence. The narrative begins in the childhood of 1980s communist Romania, where a sensitive and withdrawn boy discovers a fascination for drawing, feminine forms, and the idealized beauty of classical art. Between minimalist sketches of a yogi-like figure, ancient Greek sculptures, and his sister’s blonde doll, the child quietly builds a personal mythology of femininity in which early erotic sensitivity, affection, and aesthetics merge into a single inner experience.
Years later, this memory becomes the filter through which the protagonist seeks love, closeness, and existential meaning. His relationships with Angel, Irene, and Alia are not merely romantic encounters, but successive projections of a deeper, older obsession: the attempt to rediscover the impossible ideal image of femininity. Each woman exists simultaneously as a real person and as a symbol — an angel, a fantasy, an echo of childhood, or a reflection of inner fragility.
The film constantly alternates between realistic reconstructions and AI-generated animated or graphic sequences, inspired by Western visual languages such as comics, illustration, and vintage animation. This stylistic oscillation is not merely an aesthetic choice, but the expression of a mind in continuous migration between the concrete and the imaginary, between tactile memory and affective projection. The image fractures and recomposes itself like memory: sometimes clear and intimate, other times artificial, idealized, or floating in a state of melancholic alienation.
In the background, early 2000s Bucharest emerges alongside a subtle inner rupture that gradually alters perception of the world and of human relationships. Coincidences acquire an almost metaphysical weight, connections between people seem governed by an invisible logic, and reality begins to resemble an unstable territory crossed by symbols and emotional echoes.
At its core, the film speaks about the desperate attempt to preserve something authentic within one’s existence before time, trauma, and the deformation of memory can irreversibly rewrite the past. AI thus becomes not only a visual tool, but also a metaphor: a technology that artificially reconstructs fragments of lost reality, just as the mind tries to reassemble, from incomplete images and persistent emotions, the story of a man who refuses to disappear into oblivion.
