The Blooming Lilacs shawl is worked on the bias sideways, starting with the few cast on stitches. You start at the right edge of the shawl and work the series of increases that are incorporated into a brioche stitch pattern. Shaping is done by repeating the pattern of increases that runs along the right edge of the fabric.
The pattern includes both written and charted instructions for the stitch patterns.

GAUGE
22 stitches and 16 rows over 4” (10 cm) square in shawl's body pattern repeat.
Note that 1 row of brioche consists of 1 row of LC and 1 row of DC.
Adjust needle size to obtain a proper gauge, if necessary.
