The Beatles' "Please Please Me" was released in the UK in January 1963, becoming their first #1 single on charts like New Musical Express (NME) and Melody Maker, though it peaked at #2 on the Record Retailer chart (now the Official UK Singles Chart). In the US, its initial release flopped, but a 1964 re-release hit #3 on the Billboard Hot 100, establishing it as a major hit worldwide and cementing the band's rise to fame.
