Rocks in the Otter Mouth

Low tide exposes a great deal of character at the estuary of the River Otter in Budleigh Salterton.

Like a slow-flowing river, the eye is drawn in an S-bend, from the jagged rocky boulders sunk in the clay bed, then following the flow of the river towards Otter Head in the distance, and finishing upon the iconic pine treeline. Or vice-versa, depending on your starting focal point.

Though taken on a bright, summary day, the black and white conversion really captures and emphasises the contrasting shapes and textures. From the dark trees and rough / sharp rocks, to the smooth water, airy clouds, and wispy reeds. A lone figure stands on the stony beach in the distance, possibly pondering the variety of nature.
