Budleigh Salterton: Two Miles of World Heritage

There's plenty of reasons why Budleigh Salterton is one of East Devon's most popular tourist destinations.

First, there's a mile long beautiful pebble beach, the start of the World Heritage Jurassic Coast. Ideal for those not keen on getting sand in everything when visiting the seaside! (Maybe that's why naturists use the west end of the beach under the cliffs?) It's such a contrast to Exmouth beach just a few miles away, with a steep sloping entry to the sea, yet always plenty of space. Along the parade are some charming cafes, with the Longboat Café a personal favourite, offering excellent breakfasts and the best sea view seating.

Second, the picturesque estuary of the River Otter is a fantastic place to explore, whether for a walk, kayak, or even quick paddleboard. There's so much wildlife among the marshland, a peaceful haven offering much to spot for the twitchers out there. And all available as you step out of your car from the Lime Kiln car park.

Beyond the sea and waterways, the town itself is crammed with charming cafes, interesting shops, several pubs, and even its own museum. The town hall has a popular monthly food and craft market (normally the last Friday of each month).

Overlooking the whole scene is the East Devon Golf Club, above the cliffs at the west end of the town. I've previously provided commercial photography to Teignmouth Golf Club, which Budleigh reminds me of with its well-kept heathland course and awesome 'top of the world' views.

While on the subject of being on top of the world, the below video gives a great bird's eye view of Budleigh Salterton.
