This is a simple vest, with a top down construction. The vest is worked flat to begin, with a pretty sweetheart neckline, and then joined for working in the round. The A-line body increases regularly, accommodating your bust as well as larger tummies.
It can be knitted to any length, and has a slight asymmetric shaped hem when worn. The simple lace trim is quick to knit, and can be worked in a contrast colour if desired. Alternatively, knit the contrast trim with the lace omitted for a rolled hem.

Materials:
Sample used Truly Hooked standard sock (75% superwash merino/25% nylon, 425 m per 100 g) in 2 different colours (see section on yarn choices below)
4.5 mm (7 US) circular needle (with cable slightly shorter than your bust)
3 mm (3 US) dpns for straps
Two stitch markers
Darning needle

Gauge:
24 stitches and 28 rows per 4’’ (10 cm) square, knitted in stocking stitch on larger needles, when blocked (6 sts and 7 rows per inch).
Gauge is important! Please go down a needle size if you tend to knit loosely.

Sizes:
Use your upper bust measurement, taken approx 2’’ (5 cm) below your armpits and pick the size closest. The A line shape adds fullness to the garment, and the upper edge needs to be a close fit. If in doubt, size DOWN to prevent the garment from bagging out at the back. If you have a smalll bust for your size, then size down also.
e.g. for a 55’’ bust, make size 7. If you have a 44’’ upper bust and your full bust is less than 3’’ bigger, then make size 4.

Upper bust:
28 (32, 36, 40, 44) (48, 52, 56, 60) (64, 68, 72) ‘'
71 (81, 91, 101, 111) (121, 131, 141, 151) (161, 172, 182) cms

Yarn choices:
Samples are shown using Truly Hooked standard sock, a merino/nylon blend yarn with 425m per 100g skein. If substituting, choose a 4ply yarn that that has a little drape, but isn’t slippery, like silk. Plant fibres such as bamboo or linen may work well, ensure you check your gauge when blocked and adjust the needle size as required. Aim for a slightly floppy fabric, without being too gappy.

Testers used some of the following yarns (this list is not exhaustive):
- Pollyorange sock
- Wollmeise pure
- Phileas Wanderlust
- Third Vault Yarns Limbo 4ply
- Patons Fairytale Dreamtime 4ply
- King Cole Drifter 4ply
