This sweater is knitted in the round, from the bottom up. 
It divides at the armholes and is knitted flat for the front and back, with the shoulders joined together. 
The neck at the front is shaped with a few additional shoulder rows, with the neckband picked up and knitted afterwards. Sleeves are picked up from the front and back edges and slowly decreased for a slouchy fit.  
Demetria is a great first sweater, as it has a simple shape and is easy to follow. 

Materials:
Sample used - Truly Hooked DK with nylon (225m per 100g) see notes below on yarn choices
4mm (8 US) and 5mm (6 US) circular needles (the cable should be long enough to fit around your body) plus circular needles or DPN’s for sleeves
Darning needle
Waste yarn or stitch holders
Stitch marker

Gauge:
20 stitches and 28 rows per 4’’ square in stocking stitch when blocked 

Sizes:
There is approx 7-8’’ of positive ease worked in to the pattern, for a loose and relaxed fit. If you would prefer a closer fit, choose finished bust size nearer to your own bust measurements. (eg. 40’’ actual bust can choose size 6 for a loose fit or size 5 for a closer fit. Size 4 will be a tight fit.)

Yarn alternatives:
This pattern requires a DK weight yarn, however a sport or even a light worsted may work well depending on your gauge. Your fabric should be drapey without being super loose and open, but not so firm that it feels restrictive. This pattern would work well with most fibres, but avoid anything slippery and very stretchy. 

Fade sample uses Truly Hooked DK in the following colours, from top to bottom:
