Asanoha Sashiko Pattern PDF — Hemp Leaf Embroidery Template
✦ Asanoha (Hemp Leaf): Traditional Japanese Sashiko Pattern ✦
A printable, true-scale PDF template for the classic Asanoha "hemp leaf" design, with clear, step-by-step instructions so you go from print to stitched piece without guesswork.
Repeating hemp-leaf stars fill the cloth with one of Japan's oldest geometric motifs. Because hemp grows fast, straight and strong, asanoha was traditionally stitched onto children's clothes as a wish for healthy growth, and worn as a quiet charm against harm. Classically white on indigo, it glows in any high-contrast pair.

DETAILS:
• Skill level: Intermediate, a dense triangular grid of straight lines plus a diamond braid
• Time: approx. 3-5 hrs for a 10x10 in piece
• Thread: approx. 20 m (buy a little extra for thread carried across the back)
• You'll need: cotton or linen, sashiko thread (classic white on indigo, or any high-contrast pair), a water- or heat-erasable fabric marker, and a ruler for the triangle grid
HOW IT WORKS:
• Print at 100% and check the 1-inch square
• On light fabric, trace at a bright window or lightbox; on dark fabric, use water-soluble stabilizer
• Stitch the straight lines first in their three directions, then the star spokes, ending each line just short of the center so the holes stay open
