For this session of ‘Dance Around the World’ we will be visiting West Africa, to learn a style of dance called Sinte.

This dance originates in Guinea, and is an extremely popular style of dance, with the Sinte rhythm performed on hollow log drums called Krin. Traditionally this dance was performed to inform young people of the trials they may encounter as they become adults. Now it’s performed for any kind of celebration.

Sinte has a very relaxed, bouncy, and free style, which requires a bit of personality. The choreography is less strict than most, but is a fair bit longer as most movements will be repeated for a bar of 8 at a time.
