Marguerite Moitié, King's Daughter (1663): 12 Children and a Winter of Mourning
In six months, from September 1684 to April 1685, Marguerite Moitié buries four of her twelve children at Sainte-Famille, on the Île d'Orléans. Born in La Rochelle, orphaned of both parents, she arrives in 1663 with her sister Catherine, who is fourteen, and marries at Château-Richer on October 24, 1663, at fifteen or seventeen depending on the source. Francogène counts thirteen generations and 3,633 marriages among her descendants, between 1.33 and 1.75 million Quebecers. This booklet contains an airy identity sheet, a narrative, a timeline, a table of the twelve children, a glossary and what the archives do not say. Profile no. 8 of Volume 1663. PDF in English.
