Canva Book Cover Class (04/23/2025)
Canva Cover Class

- Limit 25 students.
- Date: Wednesday, April 23, 2025

We’re not all made of money. Sometimes, it’s not in an author’s budget to afford a cover designer’s services, or even purchase a pre-made cover.
But if you use the built in “cover creation” features some of the e-book retailers offer, it will frequently look worse than amateur. As much as we might not like to admit it, a good book with a bad cover will not sell well.
But that doesn’t mean you have to resort to using AI — and you don’t need expensive software, either. You can easily create your own “starter cover” just by knowing a few simple guidelines about cover creation and by using Canva.
Maybe it won’t be a “fancy” cover, but it’ll be a cover that won’t cost you book sales while you save up to have a professional cover created. AND it’ll be a cover that doesn’t violate any copyright or trademark laws (unlike what AI services frequently generate). AND you can also use these techniques for generating promo materials to sell your book.
In this class, you’ll learn basics about planning your book cover, how to match fonts and colors for a certain feel, why fonts matter, and then I’ll do a live demonstration of creating book covers in Canva. It is not a genre-specific class.
(Note: I have the Canva Pro membership level, and some features might not be available in the free tier.)
Class will last approximately an hour, and will be recorded so members can download it after the fact. You do not need to be present for class, but you won’t be able to ask questions if you aren’t.
Class will be conducted over Zoom. Classroom link and password will be emailed to participants at least 2 hours before class starts.
