"Between Crib Goch and a Hard Place"

At 1,085m, climbing Snowdon is no mean feat, whichever path you take. But when you do, you’ll be rewarded with views like this.

Crib Goch ridge is a notoriously tough scramble route to the summit, even claiming several lives of those who have attempted it. Snowdonia National Park describe it as a “500-metre knife-edge ridge with no escape route.” This view is from the Snowdon summit itself, looking across the almost equally daunting ridge of Y Lliwedd East, or in this photo 'the hard place'. On the left, I’ve also shared a screenshot preview of the detail of this ridge you’ll see within the large image.

I've desaturated the colours a little in Lightroom to capture the rugged grittiness of both climbs. The clouds loom just overhead for added drama. Llyn Llydaw serves as the serenity between the two ‘hard places’, a picturesque lake situated in the valley and itself over 400M above sea level.
