“Reflecting On Your Roots”
This small island, housing some close-knit gnarled tree branches and roots, is located within a lagoon offshoot of Llyn Padarn in North Wales. The uneven patterns of the twisting trees fascinated me, giving a sense of connection. The conversion to black and white suited perfectly to accentuate the shapes and contrast.
How the trees reflected on the water reminded me of Salvador Dali’s famous 1967 painting, ‘Swans Reflecting Elephants’. In this instance, the trees and roots alone do a good job of reflecting elephants, emulating this ‘Conquest of the Irrational’ style of my favourite artist. If only the majestic swans I saw that day had also been bold enough to photobomb this picture too, maybe the recreation of an iconic surrealist piece could be achieved in real life!
