About this work
‘Four Bird Songs’ uses W.H. Davies’ poetry to explore the ways we view our place in the natural world. Davies’ poems extol the simple beauty of nature and its inhabitants, with humour and keen observation. It is the smaller moments that he appreciates in his words; the colours of a bird’s wing, the texture of the leaves in the rain, the oppressive nature of an impending thunderstorm. In direct opposition to his appreciation of birds and nature, he writes of the human desire to explore the skies - the early aeronauts and aviators described at the time as ‘bird-men’ - and the joys and perils that await there.-------
