About this work

‘A soul is more than a body is more than a number is more than’ is a reaction and reflection on events over the last few months.

A life is more than a number on a page, minimised for the sake of records or debates. Each life is individual, important and grieved by those left behind. This piece was written with all those in mind who became numbers; they were more than their body in which they are carried, they were more than a number on a piece of paper. They were more than that, much more.

‘A soul is more than a body is more than a number is more than’ was commissioned by Ensemble Télémaque, and written with financial aid from the French Ministry of Culture. The work was premiered in October 2021 in Marseille, France.
