Security Risk and Remediation Toolkit
This is where the other parts of a security program meet. Vendor reviews, identity reviews, penetration tests, vulnerability scans, audits and incidents all produce findings. Left in their reports they are noise. In one register, scored one way, owned by the business and reviewed monthly, they become the most useful management information a security leader has.
The risk register carries every field that matters: asset or process, threat, vulnerability, likelihood, impact, inherent risk, existing controls, residual risk, owner, treatment, action, due date, status, evidence, acceptance and expiration. The remediation tracker takes findings from ten sources, sets due dates from severity, and flags overdue items, self-validation, missing evidence, unlinked Critical findings and every extended due date.
The acceptance register checks each approval against the authority the residual rating requires and flags acceptances that run too long. The monthly review tab is a live agenda for new risks, high risks, overdue remediation, expiring acceptances and exceptions, emerging risks and decisions. The dashboard shows totals, high and critical risks, overdue actions, aging, risk by category, a residual heat map, trend, accepted risk and unowned risk.
