Du Maurier Reach
Following the historic streets of Fowey, here’s a view of North Street. The traditional cottages along this stretch are different to others, more of a seaside town feel, but no less charming. The patterned brickwork and elegant lintels are pleasing on the eye, as it wanders up the road and towards the dramatic cloudy sky, with another of those vintage lampposts along the way.
It’s striking how steeped in history this town is and I love how every characterful cottage seems uniquely built and presented. There’s much to see at every turn, though watch out for traffic if you’re taking some snaps as there’s rarely footpaths along the narrow streets!
The house on the right is named after Daphne du Maurier, famous local author who lived in the ‘Ferryside’ house across the river in Bodinnick. Given this dwelling on North Street has the exact same blue and white rendering outside, I wonder if this property is also owned by the du Maurier family?
