Here’s a crisp shot of the River Fowey taken from the ferry ramp at Caffa Mill car park. The skies on this sunny autumnal day. Shooting into the bright sun, I took this in HDR (high dynamic range), which brings out the details of both the lighter and darker areas. For example the dramatic sunny sky, the darker harbour walls, seaweed, along with the buildings and boats. I like how the HDR effect creates an almost painting-like effect on the water ripples, accentuating the river’s texture.

Across the river are a couple of iconic traditional Bodennick buildings, showcased in more detail elsewhere in this Fowey collection. On the left is ‘Ferryside’, a house at one time owned and lived in by the famous author, Daphne du Maurier. She wrote many of her novels there and the house is said to still be owned by the family.

There’s so much to see in this humble yet intriguing picture. I liked to draw the eye in from the right through the textured harbourside walls in the near distance, to the middle distance of higgledy-piggledy houses and graceful rowing boats resting on the water at low tide. Then on the left the eye is drawn again towards the middle and far distance, resting upon a classic, almost eerie, Cornish cottage set out on its own among the trees.

The image previews give both the overall image, then examples of zoomed-in detail.
