While Q-tips do remove some earwax, it actually also pushes some ear wax further into your ear which can cause ear infections.
Cleaning inside the ear isn't necessary for most people. You can clean it inside your ears if you have ceruminosis, which is a medical condition of too much earwax in the ear.
