My 4 Advice from Payhip's Temporary Website Shut-down

Websites can find out if another Website is Shut Down

Payhip's website was temporarily shut down on Aug 19th. I learned this when I was typing Payhip but I landed on a 404 page. I then searched "is Payhip down" and websites had told me that Payhip definitely was down.

I am selling Canva Templates on Payhip. I wasn't making money at the time, but it is a potential source of income. When I become financially dependent on Payhip when it is running again, I won't be able to make money on Payhip when it becomes temporarily shut down again. 

Pinterest Traffic maybe was Affected

I also linked Pinterest Pins to my blog posts on Payhip. If people try to go to those blog pages on those pins they will see this 404 page now that Payhip is down. I also know that pins that link to 404 pages don't get pushed very much by Pinterest's algorithm. So this Payhip shutdown could have also affected my Pinterest traffic a little bit and I probably lost some leads. 

Have Backup Platforms

I was planning to have Payhip as my main website temporarily and move on to Wix when I was making enough money. After this situation, I now am considering using WordPress for my next main website.

I learned that websites that can only be hosted on their website builder, can go down when the website builder is down. Wix websites can only be hosted on Wix. If I was hosting a website on Wix, it would be temporarily shut down if Wix was temporarily shut down.

Most WordPress websites with their own domains are able to still stay up when the Official WordPress website shuts down. They are hosted on a different server, not on the WordPress servers.

This experience led me to learn that I might have to use other website platforms like Kofi and Buy Me a Coffee as my backup in case Payhip temporarily shuts down. When I make a new blog post I should have a copy of it on Kofi, Buy Me a Coffee, and Google Docs. So I don't lose my blog posts.

Have Emails Prepared

I also will be writing emails that I will send to my email list if one of my website platforms gets shut down. I will also put blog post links to Kofi and Buy Me A Coffee in my emails. Have emails prepared to send to your email list.
