Nonspeaking Autism — Volume 1

A collection of our first 50 graphics, all in one handy place. Ideal for parents, carers, teaching assistants, therapists, and anyone supporting a nonspeaking or autistic child, this ebook takes the science we usually break down one post at a time and puts the whole picture in your hands. No more scrolling back through months of Facebook posts trying to find "that one about meltdowns" — every infographic is organised into six clear chapters, fully bookmarked, so you can jump straight to what you need in seconds.

It's the kind of resource you'll come back to again and again: read it front to back for a real understanding of the nervous system behind the behaviour, or keep it on your tablet as a quick-reference guide for the moments you need it most. 50 pages of research-based science, real family experience, and genuinely useful strategies, all in one place, at a fraction of what you'd spend piecing together courses or books covering the same ground.

What's inside:

  • Understanding Behaviour & the Nervous System — the Iceberg Model, meltdowns vs shutdowns, the Window of Tolerance, flight response, aggression toward caregivers, and more
  • Sensory Processing & Regulation — auditory, tactile, oral, proprioceptive and interoceptive processing, sensory tools that actually help, and why one child's calm is another child's overwhelm
  • Communication — nonspeaking does not mean nothing to say: AAC, apraxia, gestalt language processing, eye contact, and selective mutism explained
  • Internal Experience — interoception, alexithymia, delayed processing time, and what emotions can feel like from the inside
  • Daily Life & Change — transitions, routine changes, sleep difficulties, and selective/restricted eating
  • Identity, Coping & Co-occurring Conditions — masking, camouflaging, special interests, and AuDHD

Who this is for:

Parents and carers, grandparents, teaching assistants, SENCOs, therapists, and anyone who wants to genuinely understand a nonspeaking or autistic child in their life, not just manage them.

Format: PDF ebook, 55 pages, optimised for tablet reading, instant download.

Understanding over expectation. Connection over correction. See beyond the surface, support the nervous system.

About us

Hi, I'm May, the parent behind Nonspeaking Autism.

My journey began with my son, James, who is nonspeaking autistic. Like many families, we were often given explanations that focused only on behaviour, while the sensory and nervous system challenges underneath were frequently overlooked.

That experience inspired me to create a place where families, educators, therapists, and professionals can find clear, practical, evidence-informed resources that help make autism easier to understand.

Every resource in this shop is designed to bridge the gap between research and everyday life. My focus is on sensory processing, nervous system regulation, communication, behaviour as communication, interoception, co-regulation, and creating environments where autistic people can feel safe, understood, and supported.

These printables and educational posters are created to be used at home, in schools, clinics, therapy settings, and training environments. They are designed not only to explain what we see, but why we see it, helping shift the conversation from managing behaviour to understanding the nervous system behind it.

Thank you for supporting this work. Every purchase helps me continue creating new educational resources and raising autism awareness for families around the world.

Understanding over expectation.
