Black and white photography is an effective technique for focusing the viewer on the textures and contrast in an image, without the distractions of colour. As with my ‘Blue River Fowey’ image, I shot this in HDR at low tide from the Bodennick Ferry ramp on the Fowey side.

I’ve filled more of this image with the dappling of the river and Bodennick itself, but kept the intriguing curve of the harbour walls and traditional Cornish buildings on the Fowey side. The centre of attention is a stunning, four-storey dwelling with glass viewing balconies standing over the river. I can’t imagine how awesome it would be to live there and enjoy those views in all seasons!

The clouds in this dramatic autumnal sky, along with their reflection in the water, follow the direction of the river, adding to the pleasing balance of this composition.

The image previews give both the overall image, then examples of zoomed-in detail.
