“Calm Before the Storm”
Here’s a black and white option of The Lonely Tree in Llanberis, Snowdon. In this variation I placed the tree centrally, whereby you can also glimpse Castle Dolbadarn in the ‘V’ of the two branches.
I shot this soon after sunrise, with the sun blazing through the dramatic clouds on the left. The tree itself and rocky ground it stands on are in crisp detail, then things get a little hazier the further out on Llyn Padarn you go, given the wisps of mist hanging over the water.
Overall, there’s a compelling balance to the image, yet also high impact given the contrast between the calming foreground and stormy skies in the distance.
