Colour Breathing - Blue
Colour breathing is a simple technique that can be used to reduce stress, manage anxiety, improve oxygen intake and much more.
Most of us live shrouded in stress and anxiety. Whether it comes from fears and worries about what’s waiting just around the corner in our life deadlines and stresses associated with our jobs, concerns about our financial situation, the state of our health, or even relationships, stress and anxiety never seem to be too far away in life.
And, as a result, our breathing tends to be shallower than it should be and not as revitalising as it could be.
When you breathe using colour, you breathe in and incorporate the mood and emotions emanated by that specific colour.
In this exercise I invite you to breathe with the colour blue.
Blue – the colour of the endless sky stretching far beyond the horizon, of the deep, mysterious ocean waves that rise and fall in a rhythmic dance, of delicate forget-me-nots blooming gently in a quiet meadow. It is the colour of twilight as the sun dips below the earth, painting the world in serene, dreamy hues, and of the Earth itself when seen from space - vast, boundless, and full of life.
When you think of the colour blue, words like tranquility, peace, clarity, wisdom, trust, and inspiration may come to mind. Blue soothes the soul like a cool breeze on a warm day, instilling a sense of calm and quiet confidence. It is the colour of deep reflection, of open possibilities, and of an unshakable inner knowing. Whether in the rolling tides, the endless sky, or the twinkling of a sapphire, blue reminds us to breathe deeply, trust in the journey, and embrace the infinite potential within and around us.
Blue has a soothing, peaceful impact on you and your emotions. As a colour of trust, wisdom, and clarity, it is especially beneficial to breathe with if you are feeling overwhelmed by stress, seeking mental clarity, struggling with anxiety or restlessness, or needing a sense of calm and stability. Blue helps to quiet the mind, encourage clear communication, and bring a deep sense of inner peace - guiding you toward balance, serenity, and emotional resilience… among other things.
Some further words to share with you about this exercise before you begin:
- Thanks to blue’s calming, soothing nature and its ability to promote deep relaxation, this is a wonderful breathing exercise to practice before bedtime. It can be especially beneficial if you struggle with insomnia, as blue encourages a sense of peace, quiets the mind, and helps you drift into a restful and restorative sleep.
- Although this exercise doesn’t take long, ensure that you won’t be disturbed by anything (people, pets, phones ringing, computer beeping) during the exercise.
