For the one who forgot how to feel happy
When did you stop noticing?
When did the sky become just sky?
When did the rain become just rain?
When did a warm cup of tea become just another thing to drink?
Somewhere along the way, maybe when life got hard, maybe when you got busy, maybe when you got hurt.
You stopped noticing.
And that's not your fault.
Life does that. It rushes you.
It overwhelms you.
It makes you forget that beauty exists in the smallest things.
But here is what the map reveals:
Joy is not gone.
It's just hidden.
Waiting to be noticed.
“So indeed, with hardship comes ease.” (94:6)
The ease is already here.
Intertwined with the hard.
You just have to look for it.
If you remember nothing else, remember these 5 small joys to notice today:
- The breath you just took. It came without you asking. That's a gift.
- The warmth of your hands. Feel them. They've held so much. They've carried you here.
- The sound of something gentle. Rain. Birds. A fan humming. Silence.
- A memory that makes you smile. Even a small one. It happened. It was real.
- The fact that you're still here. Reading this. Breathing. Trying. That's not nothing. That's everything.
This is what Chapter 8 of “The Map Allah Gave Me” is about.
It's called “Noticing the Scenery.”
It helps you train your eyes to see what you've been missing.
Not toxic positivity.
Not ignoring the hard stuff.
Just noticing the good alongside it.
🤲 A Prayer of Gratitude:
Ya Allah,
I've been so focused on what's wrong that I forgot to notice what's right.
Open my eyes.
Soften my heart.
Let me see the gifts You've placed in the smallest moments.
Ameen.
