For the days you pray and feel nothing
Some days you wake up and Allah feels close. Like you could reach out and touch Him.
Other days, you pray and hear nothing.
You read Quran and the words slide off you.
You make dua and wonder if anyone is listening.
If today is one of those days, this post is for you.
Here's the truth no one tells you:
Even the Prophet ﷺ had days like this.
There was a period when revelation stopped.
When the angel Jibreel didn't come.
When the Prophet ﷺ wondered if he had done something wrong.
And then Surah Ad-Duha was revealed:
"Your Lord has not abandoned you, nor has He become hateful." (93:3)
Not abandoned.
Not forgotten.
Even when it felt that way.
The fog is not His absence.
The fog is just... fog.
And fog always lifts.
Imagine the sun behind clouds.
The sun hasn't moved.
The clouds have.
He is still there.
Still closer than your jugular vein.
Even when you can't feel Him.
So what do you do when your faith feels like fog?
Here are 5 gentle things to try:
- Keep praying, even when it feels empty.
The Prophet ﷺ said: "The most beloved deeds to Allah are the consistent ones, even if small."
(Bukhari)
Empty prayers are still prayers. He hears them.
- Talk to Him like a friend. Not formal dua. Not memorised words. Just... talk, pouring out your soul.
"Ya Allah, I don't feel You. But I'm here. I'm trying."
He loves that honesty.
- Go outside. Look at the sky. "And in yourselves, do you not see?" (51:21)
Sometimes the signs in creation speak louder than words.
- Read one verse. Just one. Not a whole surah. Not a page. One verse. Let it sit with you.
- Give yourself permission to feel distant. You're not a bad Muslim for feeling this. You're human. And humans have seasons.
This is why Chapter 6 of "The Map Allah Gave Me" exists.
It's called "When the Compass Wobbles."
It's for the days when your faith feels shaky.
When you're not sure what you believe.
When you're asking questions with no easy answers.
It doesn't tell you to "just pray more."
It doesn't judge you for doubting.
It just... sits with you.
In the fog.
Until it lifts.
🤲 A Prayer for Foggy Days:
Ya Allah,
I can't feel You right now.
But I know You're there.
Hold me steady when I can't hold myself.
Let me find You in small things.
A breath. A sky. A moment of quiet.
And when the fog lifts, let me find myself closer to You than before.
Ameen.
