ACCESS

In Switzerland, citizens are required to have basic health and accident insurance. The insurance premiums are not funded by taxes or employers like they are in the U.S. but instead are paid by the insured. Each person must be individually insured and once a person turns 18 years old, they are required to pay their own premiums. Babies are covered as soon as they are born, but once they are 3 months old, they must also have their own coverage (Expatica Communications, 2017). This is different in the U.S. where children are typically on the same insurance plan as their parents and siblings.
